앙투앙의 유혹은 테바이스 사막에서 성인 앙투안이 악마에게 유혹을 받고 그를 극복하는 과정을 묘사한 장편소설로 모두 7장으로 이루어졌다.
이집트 사막에 고립된 산 꼭대기에 살고 있는 성인 앙투안은하룻밤동안 악마의 유혹에 시달린다.
악마는 그에게 여러가지 환상을 보여준다. 굶주린 그에게 물과 맛있는 음식을 주고, 금은 보석을 주기도 한다.
폭력에시달리기도하고여자의유혹을거친다.
그런유혹을뿌리치며태양이 솟아오를때 그는 예수의 빛나는 얼굴을 맞이하고 다시 성호를 긋고 기도를 드리기 시작한다.

‘The Temptation of Saint Anthony’ follows protagonist Saint Antoine as he faces temptation from the devil and overcomes it in the Tabatha desert.
Saint Anthony, who lives an isolated life at the peak of a mountain in the Egyptian desert, is met with great temptation from the devil during the course of one night. The devil presents him with numerous, different fantasies. He also provides the starved protagonist with water and food, and offers him gold, silver and other precious stones.
Saint Anthony encounters violent attacks and seduction by women, but overcomes them as the sun rises at dawn, and is met with the shining face of Jesus. The protagonist then makes the sign of the cross and begins to pray.
